હિન્દુ ધર્મમાં કપાળ પર તિલક કરવાનું વિશેષ મહત્વ છે, પૂજા, તહેવારો, લગ્ન અને જન્મદિવસ જેવા આયોજનમાં પણ તિલક કરવામાં આવે છે. શાસ્ત્રોમાં સફેદ ચંદન, લાલ ચંદન, કુમકુમ, વિલ્વપત્ર, ભસ્મ વગેરેથી તિલક કરવું શુભ માનવામાં આવે છે પરંતુ આજના સમયમાં મુખ્યત્વે કુમકુમથી તિલક કરવામાં આવે છે. જોકે તમે જોયું જ હશે કે કુમકુમના તિલક સાથે ચોખાનો ઉપયોગ પણ કરવામાં આવે છે, પરંતુ શું તમે તેની પાછળનું કારણ જાણો છો. જો નહીં તો ચાલો જાણીતે તેની પાછળનું વાસ્તવિક કારણ.
ચોખા શુદ્ધતાનું પ્રતીક છે: જો વૈજ્ઞાનિક દૃષ્ટિકોણથી જોવામાં આવે તો કપાળ પર તમે બંને ભ્રામરની વચ્ચે જ્યાં તમે તિલક કરો છો તેને અગ્નિચક્ર કહેવામાં આવે છે. અહીંથી આખા શરીરમાં શક્તિ પ્રસારિત થાય છે. આવી સ્થિતિમાં, આ જગ્યાએ તિલક કરવાથી ઉર્જાનો સંચાર થાય છે અને વ્યક્તિનો આત્મવિશ્વાસ વધે છે. તિલકમાં ચોખા લગાવવાનું કારણ એ છે કે ચોખા શુદ્ધતાનું પ્રતીક માનવામાં આવે છે.

ચંદનનું તિલક કરવાથી થતા ફાયદા: તો પૂજા-પાઠ કરનારા લોકો ખાસ કરીને સાધુ સંન્યાસીઓ તેમના કપાળ પર ચંદનનું તિલક કરે છે. તેનું કારણ એ છે કે ચંદનનું તિલક કરવાથી માનસિક શાંતિ મળે છે. ખરેખર કપાળ પર ચંદનનું તિલક કરવાથી મગજમાં સેરાટોનિન અને બીટા એંડોર્ફિનનો સ્ત્રાવ સંતુલિત રીતે થાય છે. તેનાથી વ્યક્તિનું મન શાંત અને સુખદ રહે છે. આવી સ્થિતિમાં વ્યક્તિ પોતાનું ધ્યાન તેમના કામમાં લગાવી શકે છે. તો ચંદનનું તિલક કરવાથી માતા લક્ષ્મીની વિશેષ કૃપા પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે. જો જ્યોતિષની વાત માનવામાં આવે તો ચંદનનું તિલક કરીને ઘણા ઉગ્ર ગ્રહોને શાંત કરી શકાય છે.
