પવન પુત્ર હનુમાન અને ભગવાન રામના પાવન અને પવિત્ર સંબંધો વિશે દરેક વ્યક્તિ જાણે છે. હનુમાનજી એ જીવનભર લગ્ન નથી કર્યા. તેમણે પોતાનું આખું જીવન ભગવાન રામની ભક્તિમાં વિતાવ્યું. પરંતુ આજે અમે તમારી સામે કંઈક એવી વાત લઈને આવ્યા છીએ જેને સાંભળીને તમે આશ્ચર્યચકિત થઈ જશો. જેમ કે આપણે બધા જાણીએ છીએ કે “બાલ-બ્રહ્મચારી” શબ્દ ભગવાન હનુમાન સાથે સંકળાયેલ છે. તો પછી હનુમાનજી કેવી રીતે પિતા બન્યા? ક્યાંથી આવ્યો તેનો પુત્ર? શું ખરેખર હનુમાજીને પુત્ર હતો? હનુમાનજી ભગવાન રામના સૌથી મોટા ભક્ત હતા અને સવાર-સાંજ તેમની ભક્તિમાં તલ્લીન રહેતા હતા અને આ કારણે તેમણે લગ્ન ન કરવાનો નિર્ણય લીધો હતો, પરંતુ છતાં પણ હનુમાનજીને એક પુત્ર હતો જેનું નામ મકરધ્વજ હતું.
શું થયું જ્યારે હનુમાનજી મળ્યા તેમના પુત્રને: શું મકરધ્વજ ખરેખર હનુમાનજીના પુત્ર હતા? આ કહેતા પહેલા, અમે તમને જણાવીશું કે હનુમાનજી ક્યારે અને કેવી રીતે મકરધ્વજને મળ્યા. વાલ્મીકીજી મુજબ જેમ તેમણે રામાયણમાં લખ્યું છે તેમ, યુદ્ધ દરમિયાન રાવણે અહિરાવણને રામ-લક્ષ્મણનું અપહરણ કરવાનું કહ્યું. અહિરાવણ રામ-લક્ષ્મણનું અપહરણ કરીને તેમને પાતાળ પુરી લઈ આવ્યા, ત્યાર પછી રાવણના ભાઈ વિભીષણે હનુમાનજીને રામ-લક્ષ્મણને પાતાળ પુરી લઈ જવાની વાત કહી. ત્યાર પછી હનુમાનજી રામ-લક્ષણની મદદ માટે પાતાળ પુરી પહોંચ્યા.
પાતાળ પુરી પહોંચતા હનુમાનજીએ દરવાજા પર એક વાનર દેખાયો, જેને જોઈને તેઓ આશ્ચર્યચકિત થયા અને તેમણે મકરધ્વજને પોતાનો પરિચય આપવા કહ્યું. પૂછવા પર મકરધ્વાજે કહ્યું કે “હું હનુમાન પુત્ર મકરધ્વજ છું અને પાતાળ પુરીનો દ્વારપાલ છું”. આ સાંભળીને હનુમાનજી ગુસ્સે થયા. તેમણે કહ્યું કે હું જ હનુમાન છું અને હું બાળ બ્રહમચારી છું. તમે મારા પુત્ર કેવી રીતે બની શકો? મકરધ્વજ હનુમાનજીનો પરિચય મેળવતાંની સાથે જ તેમના પગે પડ્યા અને પછી તેમની ઉત્પત્તિની કથા જણાવી.
કેવી રીતે થયો મકરધ્વાજનો જન્મ: મકરધ્વાજે હનુમાનજીને કહ્યું કે તમે તમારી પૂંછથી લંકા દહન કર્યું હતું અને તે દરમિયાન લંકા નગરીમાં આગ લાગવાને કારણે અતિશય જ્યોત ઉઠી રહી હતી, જેના કારણે તમને વધુ પસીનો આવવા લાગ્યો હતો. અને જ્યારે તમે તમારી પૂંછમાં લાગેલી આગને બુજાવવા માટે સમુદ્ર પર ગયા ત્યારે તમારા શરીરમાંથી ટપકેલા પસીનાના ટીપાં એક માછલીએ તેના મોંમા લીધા હતા અને તે ગર્ભવતી થઈ ગઈ હતી. થોડા સમય પછી, લંકાપતિ રાવણ અને તેના ભાઈ અહિરાવણે એક સૈનિક મોકલીને સમુદ્રમાંથી તે માછલીને પકડી લાવવા કહ્યું. માછલીનું પેટ કાપવાથી વાનર જેવો દેખાતો એક મનુષ્ય નિકળ્યો અને તે વાનર હું જ હતો. ત્યાર પછી સૈનિકો એ મને પાતાળ પુરીનો દ્વારપાણ બનાવ્યો. સત્ય જાણ્યા પછી હનુમાનજી એ મારધ્વજ ને પોતાના ગળે લગાવ્યો.
